TYLER – UT Tyler’s Kaylee Prather and Zach Richardson will be competing in Wisconsin this weekend in a pair of meets to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Prather and Richardson will start by competing at the Carthage College Final Qualifier on Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin before traveling to the Pointer Final Qualifier on Saturday in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Prather will compete in the long jump and 55-meter dash on Friday in Kenosha, while Richardson will run the 200 and 400 in Stevens Point with Prather also competing in the long jump and 60. A senior from Elysian Fields, Prather has set the UT Tyler program record with a long jump of 5.47 meters (17-11.5) and has the second fastest 60-meter time by running a 7.85 at the Broncho Open last month in Norman, Oklahoma. Her long jump is the second-best leap in the South/Southeast Region and her 60 time is the seventh best in the region. This is her first year competing for the UT Tyler track team after she had an All-American career as an outfielder for the Patriot softball program.

Richardson is a junior from Waxahachie who broke the UT Tyler 400-meter record by running a 48.94 at the Aggie Twilight which is the fifth best time in the South/Southeast Region. In the 200, Richardson ran a 22.55 in Joplin, Missouri for the eighth best time in the region.

“Honestly, at the beginning of the year, we had our sights set on outdoor nationals and not indoor nationals,” UT Tyler coach Chris Stonestreet said. “It took breakthroughs for both athletes to get to the position where they are right now. That’s a testament to how hard they’ve worked every single day, doing the big and little things right to get themselves to this point. I’m so proud of how hard they’ve worked to not only improve themselves, but elevate the culture and performance of the entire team. This weekend is going to be fun.”

The NCAA DIII Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 9-10 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The UT Tyler Track & Field program has won two NCAA DIII Indoor National Champions with Kevonte Shaw winning the 2015 NCAA DIII 200-meter title and Whitney Simmons winning the 2017 Weight Throw national championship.
