    Stonestreet named UT Tyler head Track & Field, Cross Country Coach

    UT Tyler has named Chris Stonestreet as the Track & Field and Cross Country head coach after a national search that resulted in him being elevated from within due to his success in helping to develop the program and student-athletes over the years.

    CHAMPIONS TERRITORY: 2017-18 Year-In-Review

    An NCAA national baseball championship, 11 All-America selections, three regional team titles, eight NCAA tournament appearances, 11 American Southwest Conference championships and an .803 winning percentage on campus are just a few of the UT Tyler highlights from the 2017-18 athletic seasons. An athletic program with 17 sports, the Patriots combined to boast a 198-66-1 overall record in team sports and also won five golf tournaments, three cross country meets and one track & field team title at the ASC meet. At home, UT Tyler teams were 86-21-1 and also hosted two cross country meets, two golf tournaments and two track & field meets.

    Seventy-one UT Tyler student-athletes and student assistants have earned American Southwest Conference Winter-Spring Academic All-Conference honor roll recognition for their success in the classroom while also competing for and supporting the Patriots.

    RECAP: Prather completes @UTT_TF career at NCAA Championships

    UT Tyler senior Kaylee Prather finished 16th overall at the NCAA Division III Championships with a mark of 5.47 meters on her second attempt that was followed by a foul to end her attempts on Thursday at Roger Herring Stadium.

    CHAMPS!! @UTT_TF wins ASC Championships men's title

    UT Tyler won its fifth American Southwest Conference Track & Field Championships men’s title led by Zach Richardson who ran a 47.88 to set a new ASC record and qualify for the national meet in the 400 meters and Matthew Cecotti who won the 800-meters in a time of 1:58.02 on Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium. The Patriot men racked up 173 points to top McMurry who was second with 167 points and have now won titles in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018 in program history, while the women’s team finished third with 91 total points. On the women’s side, McMurry earned the ASC title with 265 team points.

    UT Tyler senior Matthew Godwin punched his ticket to nationals in the javelin and won the American Southwest Conference Championship for the fourth straight year after a career-best throw of 63.23 meters at Wilford Moore Stadium.

    The UT Tyler Track & Field teams will compete at the 2018 American Southwest Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene. The Patriot men’s program has won four ASC titles (2013, 14, 15, 16), while the women are two-time ASC champions (2014, 15).

    RECAP: @UTT_TF competes at A&M-Commerce

    Matthew Godwin won the javelin with a throw of 54.40 meters and Matthew Cecotti, Katie Moore and Nike Simmons each had second-place finishes to highlight UT Tyler performances at the East Texas Invitational on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Cecotti ran a 4:01.55 for second place in the 1,500 meters, while Simmons had a career-best mark of 45.21 meters for second in the hammer.

    UT Tyler long jumpers Kaylee Prather and Cody Benton were both honored with ASC Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday after winning the event at the SAU Dan Veath Invitational last Saturday in Magnolia, Arkansas.

    The UT Tyler track and field programs competed at the Southern Arkansas Dan Veath Invitational on Saturday in Magnolia, Arkansas. The Patriots had multiple wins from Matthew Cecotti in the 1,500 and 800, a school record from Zach Richardson in the 400 and long jump wins from Kaylee Prather and Cody Benton. The jump by Benton leads all of NCAA Division III. This story will be updated later tonight, but results are below.

    AWARD: Prather earns ASC Field Athlete of the Week

    UT Tyler senior Kaylee Prather has been named the ASC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the War Hawks Classic long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters. The distance was a national-qualifying mark and a UT Tyler school record.

    RECAP: @UTT_TF amazes in Abilene

    UT Tyler senior Kaylee Prather qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in the long jump with a school record jump of 5.80 meters, while Zach Richardson broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 21.78 to win the event on Friday War Hawks Classic. On the track, Will McIlroy won the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:31.32 and Matthew Cecotti won the 1,500 and the 800 for the Patriots. Cecotti won the 1,500 by running a 4:12.15 and sprinted to an 800 win with a time of 2:00.29. Matthew Godwin won the javelin and McIlroy the 3,000 steeplechase to highlight a day of wins and personal best for the Patriots.

    The UT Tyler Track & Field programs will send 43 athletes to compete on Friday at the War Hawks Classic in Abilene at Wilford Moore Stadium. The Patriots are being represented by 27 men and 16 women at their first outdoor road meet of the season after the program hosted the East Texas Time Trials and Marc Randle Classic in Tyler.

    UT Tyler’s Kaylee Prather and Zach Richardson will be competing in Wisconsin this weekend in a pair of meets to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Prather and Richardson will start by competing at the Carthage College Final Qualifier on Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin before traveling to the Pointer Final Qualifier on Saturday in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

    UT Tyler junior Zach Richardson set a new 400-meter program record by running a 48.94, while Kaylee Prather leaped 5.44 meters to finish second in the long jump to highlight Patriot performances at the Aggie Twilight in Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

    AWARD: Prather goes back-to-back with ASC honors

    UT Tyler senior Kaylee Prather earned her second consecutive Track Athlete of the Week award after placing fourth in the 60 meter dash finals at the Broncho Open in Norman, Oklahoma with a time of 7.92 seconds. Her mark leads the ASC and is tied for 36th in NCAA Division III and tied for sixth in the region. Prather also won the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters (17 ft.-5.5 in.).

    RECAP: @UTT_TF has strong showing in Oklahoma

    UT Tyler's Zach Richardson ran a 22.59 to win the 200-meter dash, Kaylee Prather won the women’s long jump with a distance of 5.32 meters and Cody Benton won the men’s long jump at 6.61 meters on Saturday at the Broncho Open. On the Mosier Indoor Track, Richardson ran a 7.12 to finish third in the 60 and Matthew Cecotti established a new UT Tyler record by running a 4:24.85 in the 1-mile.

    AWARDS: Prather earns ASC award after @UTT_TF record jump

    Kaylee Prather established a new UT Tyler school record in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.50 last Friday at the Missouri Southern Lion Open in Joplin, Missouri. In her first year competing in track after an all-American softball career, Prather's first long jump competition resulted in her finishing fifth overall at the meet. She would also run an 8.10 in the 60-meter on Saturday for 18th at the event.

    UT Tyler senior Kaylee Prather shattered the previous school long jump record with a distance of 17-feet, 11.5 inches and Cody Benton extended his previous program long jump record at 21-feet, 11.5 on Friday at the Missouri Southern Lion Open at the Mercy Indoor Track. The two-day event will continue on Saturday with multiple UT Tyler student-athletes competing.

    PREVIEW: @UTT_TF to compete in Missouri

    The UT Tyler Patriots will compete in their second indoor meet of the season at the Missouri Southern Lion Open at the Mercy Indoor Track on Friday and Saturday in Joplin, Missouri. The Patriots will be sending 24 athletes to Missouri, including Zach Richardson who ran the second fastest 60-meter in program history with a time of 7.08 at the UCO Open two weeks ago and Cody Benton who set a new UT Tyler long jump record at 21-feet, 10.25 inches. Victoria Nix will also be back in action after she cleared 10-feet in the pole vault for a fifth-place finish.

    Hepler to resign from UT Tyler positions at semester's end

    Bob Hepler has announced his intentions to resign from his positions as The University of Texas at Tyler’s head men’s and women’s Track & Field and Cross Country coach and Director of the Louise Herrington Patriot Center (HPC) following the completion of the Spring 2018 semester to pursue coaching positions at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. A 20-time American Southwest Coach of the Year, he will continue in his current roles at UT Tyler until that time.

    The UT Tyler Track & Field team will not be competing today at the Dunamis Indoor Opener at Dallas Market Hall after the event was canceled. UT Tyler will now open its Indoor season on Jan. 20, 2018 at the UCO Open in Norman, Oklahoma.

    Whitney Simmons was honored on July 12, 2017 by Tyler Mayor Martin Heines prior to the Tyler City Council meeting in City Hall with a proclamation making it Whitney Simmons Day to honor her athletic career at the University of Texas at Tyler.

    AWARD: Simmons named ASC Athlete of the Year

    UT Tyler senior Whitney Simmons has been selected as an American Southwest Conference Athlete of the Year recipient after winning two NCAA Track & Field National Championships and a pair of American Southwest Conference titles to cap her historic career for the Patriots. Teidrick Smith was named the ASC Male Athlete of the Year for helping to lead the Mary Hardin-Baylor football team to the NCAA Division III championship.

    Louie Gohmert sends his congratulations to UT Tyler's Whitney Simmons for winning her third NCAA Division III National Championship. Thanks to Congressman Gohmert for this video that recognizes the White Oak native for winning the 2017 NCAA DIII Hammer Throw Championship with a national record of 64.03 meters two weeks ago in Ohio.
