Men Finish 5th, Women Take 4th at Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas -- The UT Tyler men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Texas A&M Commerce Invitational on Saturday, and each recorded a top-five team finish.

The UT Tyler women finished fourth as a team with 55 total points, the second-best finish among NCAA Div. III schools at the meet.  Sprinter Alexis Baldwin picked up a first-place finish in the women's 100 meter dash, finishing in 11.99 seconds.

Thrower Whitney Simmons also had a strong day for the Patriots, finishing first in the women's hammer toss with a best of 53.53 meters, winning by more than four meters.  Simmons also finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 41.66 meters.

Brittany Brunson finished sixth in the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:57.63, while teammate Krista Painter finished just behind in seventh with a time of 4:59.70.

Carly Kitts finished ninth in the women's 5000 meter run (19:15.46), while Nasmeyea Bazzy finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.93.  

UT Tyler women's basketball standout Brittany King also had a top-10 finish for the weekend, finishing seventh in the women's shot put with a throw of 10.83 meters.

The UT Tyler men's team finished with 49 total points, good enough for a fifth-place team finish.  Sprinter Kevonte Shaw finished fourth in the 200 meter (21.81) and sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.09 seconds.  

Ford Noack finished sixth in the 800 meters (1:55.38), while Alex Wilson (6th- 15:33.87) and Conner Benson (9th- 15:55.72) each recorded a top-10 finish in the men's 5000 meter run.

Demarquis Mims finished fourth in the men's 400 meter hurdles in 57.52, while Gregory Cawthon finished third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.17 meters.
