NACOGDOCHES -- The UT Tyler men's and women's track and field teams took on numerous D-I teams at the 2013 Skechers-Stephen F Austin Alumni Invitational on Saturday.  All-American Buck Thompson finished in the top-three in the discus and shot put to lead the way for the Patriots.

UT Tyler was the lone-DIII competitor at the event, dominated by larger D-I schools such as SFA, Wichita State, Rice University and Louisiana Tech.

Thompson finished second in the men's discus with a throw of 53.16 meters (174'5") and third in the shot put with a throw of 16.54 meters (54'3.25").  Both throws were once again historic for Thompson, ranking in the top-three all-time in program history.

Senior Ed Palencia, the reigning American Southwest Conference Track Athlete of the Week had another strong performance, finishing third in the javelin with a toss of 57.66 m (189'2").

Freshman Preston Mizner continued his strong first season, running a 56.20 in the men's 400 meter hurdles, good enough for a fifth-place finish.

In the men's 1500 meter, Nick Huff finished eighth with a time of 4:04.47, while teammate Ford Noack finished sixth in the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:54.82.

For the women, Britanny Brunson finished 13th in the women's 1500 meter with a time of 5:10.16, also finishing 13th in the women's 800 meter with a time of 2:33.03.

Chelsey Grigsby finished in 19th in the women's 100 meter dash, to go along with a 12th-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 10.59 meters.

Both teams will head to the Texas A&M-Commerce Meet on Saturday, April 13 in Commerce.
