Seven New Records Set at SFA Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Seven school records were set by The University of Texas at Tyler track and field teams as the Patriots competed against a field crowded with Division I schools at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational at SFA's Fletcher Garner Track on Saturday.

Jessica Waninger broker her own school record in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:11.41 which placed her tenth overall in the meet. She also finished fifth in the 5,000-meter with a 19:00.34.

Taylin Eckols set a new UT Tyler record in the women's javelin with a 116'0" mark.  In the men's javelin, Ed Palencia threw a 186'05" to also set a new school high.

Josh Chatman had a 45-04.50 mark in the men's triple jump for fourth place and a 20-10.0 jump in the men's long jump for tenth place.  

In the running events, Tanner Chambliss came in tenth in the men's 400-meter with a school record 51.47 and Wes Ritchie had a 59.95 time in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

The UT Tyler men's 4X400 team of Chambliss, John Buck, Nick Huff and Ford Noak came in seventh place with a time of 3:24.71 for a new school record - taking almost six seconds off the previous school mark.  In the 4X100, Christian Kearney, Jeff Monta, Dedrick Weathersby, and Buck had a fourth-place time of 42.30.  

Jake Waddingham's time of 9:44.94 was enough for fourth place in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.

In the distance events, Jeff Chandler placed third in in the 5,000-meter with a 15:34, followed by Warren Brown's fourth place time of 15:38.

Nick Huff was fifth in the 800-meter run with a 1:54.35.

Some Patriot tracksters will be action at the Texas Relays this week, while the team will return April 16 at the Bearcat Relays in Bullard.
