Track Shows Promise at DII Meet

COMMERCE – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in the Lion Quadrangulars hosted by Division II Texas A&M – Commerce on Saturday in Commerce. Division II Southern Arkansas and Tarleton State also competed in the meet.

Ben Donnan won the men’s 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.73, almost seven seconds in front of the nearest challenger.

The men’s 4x100 relay team of Zack Costlow, Monta Jeffley, Cameron Strother and Shane Burk also picked up a win on the day with a time of 43.8 seconds.

Warren Brown and Jeff Chandler finished second and third, respectively, in the men’s 10 K, while Mark Saroni came in third in the 3K steeplechase.

On the women’s side, Ashton Wells came in second with a best of 103 feet and six inches in the hammer throw.

Leah Solomon grabbed a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.99 seconds.

Both teams will return to action next Saturday at the Northwestern State Relays in Natchitoches, La.
