RECAP: #UTTylerTF competes at Texas A&M Aggie Twilight

COLLEGE STATION – UT Tyler’s Whitney Simmons had a weight throw of 19.16 meters to finish second at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight on Saturday, while Ricky Hall established a new school record in the 400 and Victoria Nix in the pole vault.

UT Tyler coach Chris Stonestreet competed in the event and had a throw of 19.67 meters to finish second to highlight the night for the Patriots. Simmons and Stonestreet will both compete at the 2017 USA Track & Field Indoor Championships on March 3-5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Simmons leads NCAA Division III with a season-best throw of 19.77 meters and will also compete at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships on March 10-11 in Naperville, Illinois.

On the track, Hall ran a 7.10 in the 60-meter dash to finish fourth while Zach Richardson took seventh (7.42), Sebastian Delgado was eighth (7.54) and Jordan Grubb finished ninth (7.68). Texas A&M’s Jace Comick won the event by crossing the line in 6.90 seconds. Hall would finish 10th and break a UT Tyler Indoor record in the 400 with a time of 49.89 with Richardson running a 50.45 and Logan Houser a 50.59. Tristin Salem took third in the women’s 400 meter run at 1:03.43 to finish behind A&M runners and finished 10th in the 200 meters by running a 28,16.

Nix was fifth in the women’s pole vault at 3.24 meters with Texas A&M’s Emilty Gunderson winning the event at 4.29 meters. Nix had set the UT Tyler mark in Frisco before continuing to improve with the 3.24 clearance in College Station. Simmons would take third in the discus with a throw of 10.68 meters, while A&M’s Shaina Burns won with a throw of 13.47 meters.

In men’s field events, Matthew Godwin earned third in the pole vault by clearing 3.87 meters and fourth in the long jump (5.54 meters). Gabriel Perez was fourth in the men’s shot put at 12.25 meters and also fourth in the weight throw at 16.62 meters.

UT Tyler will be away from competition the next two weeks before hosting the Marc Randle Classic on Friday, March 3 at The Brook Hill School in Bullard.
