SAN ANTONIO -- The UT Tyler women's tennis team played in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals this past weekend at Trinity, competing against numerous schools for a spot in the ITA Nationals in Mobile, Ala., in October.
The doubles team of Amy Friesenhahn and Rachel Cole had the best shot at reaching the Nationals, playing themselves into the Women's A Draw-Doubles final against Mackenzie Knoop and Thavi Ekanayake from Trinity.
After winning the first-set 6-4, the Knoop and Ekanayake rallied to win the next two, 7-5, 10-3 for the championship.
In the consolation bracket of the Women's A Draw-Doubles competition, Emily Evans and Haley Albro teamed up to reach the finals against Schreiner's Haynes/Thompson, falling 8-5.
In the Women's A Draw bracket, Friesenhahan and Jessica Blundell each reached the quarter-finals, before being eliminated.
Blundell fell to Trinity's Mackenzie Knoop, 7-6, 6-2 in the court-three quarter final match. Knoop went on to lose in the championship match.
Friesenhahn was defeated 6-0, 6-3 by Texas Dallas' Auvi Tran in the court-four quarter final.
In the consolation bracket of Women's A Draw, Emily Evans reached the quarter finals before falling 4-6, 6-2, 14-12 to UMHB's Anglie Juaneza, while teammate Haley Albro reached the semi's of the consolation bracket before falling 6-2, 6-4 to Mindy Tiu from Texas Dallas.
