RECAP: @patriotstennis falls to Whitman in NCAA first round

CLAREMONT, California – The No. 37-ranked UT Tyler women’s tennis team had its season end with a 5-0 loss to No. 27 Whitman in the NCAA Division III first round on Thursday at Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

UT Tyler fell behind 3-0 after dropping all three doubles matches to start the regional opener. In first doubles, Marisa Quevedo and Victoria Kniffen dropped an 8-5 match while in second doubles Alexandra McKissick and Alexis Arrieta lost 8-3 in the first decision of the match. Emily Danielson and Lauren Kuhn had a 6-5 advantage in third doubles, but would fall 8-6 as the Blues took the three-win advantage into singles play.

Whitman would take a 4-0 lead over the Patriots with Savannah Seely dropping a 6-1, 6-3 match in fifth singles and the day ended with Lauren Kuhn losing a 6-2, 6-2 fourth singles decision. Matches were unfinished by Quevedo, Arrieta and McKissick with Whitman securing the team win.

UT Tyler finishes its season with a 16-8 overall record and having won the American Southwest Conference East Division regular-season championship and the ninth ASC Championship tournament title in program history.
