TYLER—The UT Tyler tennis teams travel to Jackson, Mississippi this weekend to compete against three opponents at Belhaven University. Both teams are coming off of strong performances during spring break in Orlando, Florida and look to continue that success this weekend.

The men’s team won three of their four matches in Orlando and then took down No. 35 ranked Cal Tech last Sunday in Tyler at the Summers Tennis Center. Sophomore Gabriel Hidalgo earned his first ASC East Division Player of the Week of the season after going 5-0 in singles play and 4-1 in doubles with his partner Daniel Rodriguez last week. Hidalgo, Daniel Rodriguez, and Pablo Gomez all have been honored by the ASC as Players of the Week this season. The men’s team will take on Millsaps College on Friday at 3 p.m. before playing Birmingham Southern and Belhaven on Saturday. The team will travel back to Tyler to face Louisiana College at noon on Sunday.

The women’s tennis team is coming off of three wins while in Orlando over spring break. Alexis Arrieta and Savanna Seely have led the team in singles play this season with records of 4-2 and Seely is now 19-8 in her career with the Patriots. Alexandra McKissick and Alexis Arrieta are the leading doubles team with a 4-2 overall record this season, with their only losses being to Division I Butler University and University of Rochester. The team will head to Jackson this weekend to take on opponents Millsaps, Birmingham Southern, and Belhaven before returning to Tyler to face Louisiana College on Sunday at the Summers Tennis Center.
