SCHEDULE UPDATE: @patriottennis moves matches to Sunday

TYLER- The UT Tyler tennis home matches against UT Permian Basin, Collin County and Jacksonville College at the Summers Tennis Center have been moved back to Sunday due to weather forecasts. The teams have been off for two weeks after opening their season on February 3rd with wins over Hardin-Simmons, before their second match was canceled because of weather. The No. 23-ranked men’s team also played St. Edward’s on Feb. 4, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Hilltoppers in College Station.

The men’s team rolled to an 8-1 victory over HSU, with No. 38 Vinicio Hadlich leading the charge with 6-3, 6-2 singles win. Daniel Rodriguez, Gabriel Hidalgo, Pablo Gomez, and Jose Currea all came out on top with singles wins and the team went 3-0 in doubles matches securing the win for the Patriots. Daniel Rodriguez was awarded ASC East Division Player of the Week after picking up three wins in the opening weekend, including a doubles win over NCAA Division II opponent St. Edward’s.

The women’s team came out of the weekend with a 7-2 win over Hardin-Simmons. The team led 2-1 after doubles matches with wins from Caitlyn Cox and Lauren Kuhn (8-4) and Savannah Seely and Victoria Kniffen (8-4). The team won five of six singles matches leading to Adam Cohen’s first career victory as the UT Tyler tennis coach.

The teams will face UT Permian Basin at 10 a.m., Collin County at 2 p.m., and finish the day with Jacksonville College at 6 p.m. The matches will take place at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler and the Patriots will return Saturday, March 3rd at 10 a.m. with matches against Austin College at the Summers Tennis Center.
