RECAP: @patriotstennis secures 7-2 win over HSU

TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 win over Hardin-Simmons on Saturday before rain canceled its afternoon match against McMurry at the Summers Tennis Center.

The Patriots (1-0) led 2-1 after singles play and won five of six singles matches as head coach Adam Cohen earned his first win leading the team after taking over the program this season.

UT Tyler took two wins in doubles with Caitlyn Cox and Lauren Kuhn securing an 8-4 second doubles win and Savannah Seely and Victoria Kniffen an 8-4 third doubles victory. The loss came with HSU taking an 8-6 win in first doubles over Alexandra McKissick and Nancy Perez.

In second singles, Perez would fight for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win and Cox secured a 6-2, 6-0 third singles victory. McKissick would roll to a 6-1, 6-2 fourth singles win followed by Seely who was a 6-3, 6-3 fifth singles winner and Molly Hinkle who secured a 6-0, 7-5 sixth singles win. The lone singles loss came in first singles with Kuhn dropping a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-8) decision.

UT Tyler will return to action when it hosts Southwestern next Saturday at 4 p.m. in Tyler at the Summers Tennis Center.
