RECAP: @patriotstennis rolls to ASC opening wins

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The UT Tyler teams rolled to a pair of 9-0 wins over Ozarks on Saturday to open American Southwest Conference play at the Hurie Tennis Courts. The Patriot women will return to action at 8 a.m. on Sunday by hosting Trinity at the Summers Tennis Center in a match that was moved up two hours because of weather forecasts. 


The No. 17-ranked Patriots (12-3) made quick work of the Eagles to open the defense of their ASC East Division title with Vinicio Hadlich, Pablo Gomez, Jose McIntyre, Gabriel Hidalgo, Jake Cunningham and Ryan Elwood each earning singles matches. Hadlich was a 6-4, 6-1 first singles winner for his seventh singles win of the year, while Gomez improved to 9-4 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 second singles win. McIntyre rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 third singles win to improve to 11-3 and Hidalgo is now 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 fourth singles win.

Ryan Elwood and Ford Cunningham teamed up for an 8-3 first doubles win, Hadlich and Hidalgo took an 8-1 decision in second doubles and Daniel Rodriguez and Jake Cunningham were 8-3 winners in third doubles. Elwood and Cunningham are now 4-2 on the season as partners.

The women’s team improved to 7-8 with its 9-0 win over the Eagles. Alexis Arrieta earned a 6-4, 6-2 first singles win, while Lauren Kuhn was a 6-0, 6-2 second singles winner. Savannah Seely, Emily Danielson, Victoria Kniffen and Alexandra McKissick. Seeley improved to 9-6 on the season with a 6-1, 7-5 third singles win.

Arrieta and Musngi are now 12-3 with a first doubles win while Kuhn and Nancy Perez took an 8-1 decision to improve to 7-5. Musngi and Arrieta also took an 8-1 win, while Seely and McKissick won by default in third doubles.
