RECAP: @patriotstennis women open weekend with loss to Pirates

GEORGETOWN – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team took an 8-1 loss against No. 39 Southwestern on Friday at the Marvin D. Henderson Tennis Courts.

Alexis Arrieta and Tori Musngi earned an 8-6 first doubles win for the Patriots to improve to 10-3 on the season as partners. Arrieta and Musngi have won two straight matches and eight of their last 10 going into Saturday where UT Tyler will play No. 25 Linfield at 1 p.m. in a neutral-court match in Georgetown.

UT Tyler fell to 6-7 with the loss to the Pirates who improved to 11-1 on the season and won their 11th straight. Arrieta would fall in first singles in a tough-fought match against Taite Drews-Jones in a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) decision, while Musngi fell to 8-3 on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 second singles loss to Mary Cardone. UT Tyler trailed 2-1 after doubles play with Nancy Perez and Lauren Kuhn taking an 8-3 loss in second doubles and Savannah Seely and Alexandra McKissick falling 9-8 (7-4) in third doubles. Seely and McKissick are now 6-2 on the season and Kuhn/Perez are 6-4.
