PREVIEW: @patriotstennis ready for big weekend in Georgetown

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams will travel to Georgetown this weekend where the No. 20-ranked men’s team is set to play three matches and the women two at the Marvin D. Henderson Tennis Courts.

The men’s team is 9-2 on the season after knocking off No. 30 Stevens and No. 20 Kenyon last week in Orlando and will play Linfield and No. 39 Southwestern on Saturday. The Patriots will finish the weekend against No. 4 Middlebury at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The women are 6-6 on the year and are scheduled to play No. 39 Southwestern at 5 p.m. on Friday and then No. 25 Linfield at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

UT Tyler sophomore Arthur Fagundes is ranked No. 9 in the nation and is 8-0 in singles play after sweeping through Stevens, Amherst and Kenyon last weekend. Pablo Gomez dropped one match in Orlando and is now 7-2 on the season, while Jose McIntyre is 8-2 and freshman Daniel Rodriguez is 9-1. Rodriguez was named the ASC Player of the Week after going 3-0 last week in Orlando, including knocking off a nationally ranked opponent. In doubles, Joey Fischer and Gomez rolled through their opponents and are now 10-1. Fischer will be playing this weekend in his hometown of Georgetown with a 5-2 singles record to go along with his doubles dominance with Gomez. Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich are 5-2 in first doubles, while Fagundes and McIntyre went 2-1 in doubles play last weekend as partners.

UT Tyler senior Tori Musngi leads the women’s team with an 8-2 record this season and is now 67-20 in her career. Musngi won two of three matches last week in Orlando against Stevens, Case Western Reserve before having an eight-match winning streak end against Kenyon. Musngi and doubles partner Alexis Arrieta enter the weekend with a 9-3 record after going 2-1 last week. Arrieta is a Georgetown native who has five singles wins this year playing at the first singles player for the Patriots. Savannah Seely was named the ASC Player of the Week on Tuesday after winning six matches in Orlando, including going 3-0 with partner Alexandra McKissick. Seely and McKissick are 6-1 on the season and enter this weekend on a four-match winning streak while Lauren Kuhn and Nancy Perez are 6-3 in second doubles action.

UT Tyler will return to ASC play next weekend with a road trip to Arkansas to play Ozarks on Saturday, April 1 before hosting Trinity on Sunday, April 2.
