RECAP: @patriotstennis sweeps CTX at home

TYLER – The UT Tyler men and women’s tennis teams swept Concordia in American Southwest Conference action on Friday at the Summers Tennis Center.

The men defeated the Tornados 9-0 to improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the ASC while the women won 8-1 to improve to 3-3 and 2-1.

On the men’s side, UT Tyler swept all three doubles matches with Vinicio Hadlich and Arthur Fagundes defeating Leo Marchesi and Zach Haynie 9-7, Pablo Gomez and Joey Fischer defeating Adrian Montes and Holt Fields 8-2 and Gabriel Hidalgo and Jose McIntyre defeating Isaac Glynn and Victor Escalon 8-1.

The Patriot men also swept the singles matches. Daniel Rodriguez defeated Fields 6-0, 4-6, 10-3; Gomez defeated Marchesi 6-2, 5-0; Fischer defeated Montes 6-2, 6-2; McIntyre defeated Haynie 6-3, 6-1; Ford Cunningham defeated Escalon 6-0, 6-1 and Cameron McCarthy defeated Glynn 6-2, 6-0.

The UT Tyler women also began the matchup against the Tornados by sweeping the doubles matches. Alexis Arrieta and Tori Musngi defeated Justus Aarhus and Leyla Martinez 8-1, Lauren Kuhn and Nancy Perez defeated Lisette Meta and Camille Kempf 8-2 and Alexandra McKissick and Savannah Seely defeated Serena Segel and Julie Garza 8-2.

In singles, the Patriot women won five of the six matches. Arrieta defeated Aarhus 6-1, 6-1; Musngi defeated Martinez 6-3, 6-3; Kuhn defeated Mata 6-4, 7-6 (6); Perez defeated Garza 6-4, 7-5 and Victoria Kniffen defeated Hayley Anderson 1-6, 6-0, 11-9. Concordia’s lone women’s victory came when Kempf defeated Seely 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.

The Patriot teams will be back in action tomorrow for a non-conference match-up with Austin College in Sherman.
