RECAP: @patriotstennis sweeps Millsaps College

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams swept a pair of non-conference matches with the women’s team taking a 6-3 win over Millsaps and the men taking a 4-1 victory over the Majors on Saturday at the Summers Tennis Center.

The men’s team improved to 4-1 with the win, while the women are now 2-3 going into a week where the Patriots will host Concordia on Friday in a return to American Southwest Conference play.

UT Tyler’s men won their fourth straight match by downing the Majors with four singles victories after starting the day with a 1-2 doubles deficit. Ryan Elwood and Ford Cunningham earned the third doubles win for the Patriots with an 8-2 victory, while Arthur Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich fell to 4-1 with their first loss coming in a 9-7 first doubles loss. Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez would also suffer their first loss with an 8-6 second doubles decision, but the team win was decided in singles play with Fagundes, Gabriel Hidalgo, Elwood and Joshua VanWinkle earning victories for the 5-4 decision. Fagundes, who is ranked No. 9, improved to 9-0 on the season by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win over Diego Marti Vertiz and Elwood is now 3-0 with a 7-6, 6-2 fifth singles win.

The Patriot women went 2-1 in doubles play with Lauren Kuhn and Nancy Perez securing an 8-3 second doubles win and Victoria Kniffen and Savannah Seely taking a 9-8 win in third doubles. Tori Musngi was a 6-4, 6-0 second singles winner with Lauren Kuhn, Nancy Perez and Emily Danielson securing singles wins Danielson was a 6-2, 6-0 sixth singles winner with Kuhn taking a 6-0, 6-1 third singles win and Perez a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 fourth singles win.

UT Tyler is scheduled to play Concordia at 1 p.m. on Friday and will then travel to play at Austin College next Saturday in Sherman.
