TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams will host a pair of non-conference matches this weekend when they play Texas-Permian Basin on Friday and Millsaps on Saturday at the Summers Tennis Center. The men’s team will also play an exhibition match against Tyler Junior College at 6 p.m. on Saturday at The Cascades to finish off the weekend.
The Patriots will host UTPB at 3 p.m. on Friday and Millsaps at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The men’s team enters the weekend with a 2-1 record after rolling to a pair of 9-0 wins over McMurry and Hardin-Simmons last weekend in Abilene to start American Southwest Conference play, while the women’s team is 1-2 on the year after earning a win over McMurry but falling to HSU.
Tori Musngi and Alexis Arrieta have gotten off to a strong start in first doubles play with a 2-1 record with wins, while Musngi is 1-1 in singles play. Musngi has won 46 singles matches and 59 doubles victories entering this weekend.
Arthur Fagundes was named the ASC East Division Player of the Week on Tuesday and enters this weekend with a 2-0 record in first singles play and is 3-0 in first doubles play with partner Vinicio Hadlich. A sophomore from Brazil, Fagundes is now 18-6 in singles and doubles play in his career. Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez are 3-0 in second doubles play and Gabriel Hidalgo and Jose McIntyre are 2-1 in third doubles. Fischer is now 23-4 in doubles play in his career.
UT Tyler will return to ASC play next weekend when it hosts Concordia at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Summers Tennis Center.
