RECAP: @patriotstennis women split ASC openers in Abilene

ABILENE – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team earned a 5-3 win over McMurry at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center before falling 7-2 to Hardin-Simmons at the Streich Tennis Center on Saturday in its American Southwest Conference openers.

The Patriots opened the day with the 5-3 win over the War Hawks with Tori Musngi and Alexis Arrieta earning an 8-5 first doubles win over Brosig/Ritz and Nancy Perez and Savannah Seely taking an 8-1 third doubles victory to give the team a 2-1 lead going into singles play. Perez would take a 6-4, 6-3 second singles win, while Seely earned a 6-2, 6-4 fourth singles win and Victoria Kniffen a 6-0, 6-4 sixth singles victory.

UT Tyler would fall 7-2 against the Cowgirls in the second match of the day with Musngi and Alexandra McKissick earning singles wins. Musngi fought for a 7-5, 4-6 (10-4) second singles win over Michaela Ellison and McKissick took a 6-4, 6-3 fifth singles victory over Kyra Mobley to account for the two Patriot wins.

The Patriots (1-2) return to Tyler where they will host two matches next weekend, starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 against UT Permian Basin and then at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Summers Tennis Center.
