ASC announces Women's Tennis All-Conference selections

RICHARDSON, Texas – East Texas Baptist senior Kayla Casey and Hardin-Simmons junior Shayne Cook have been named division most valuable players to highlight the 2016 American Southwest Conference women’s tennis awards as voted on by the league head coaches, the ASC office announced Monday. 

Casey was named the East Division Most Valuable Player after finishing the season undefeated in conference play at 4-0 in No. 1 singles and doubles. Casey recorded a 15-1 overall record and led East Texas Baptist to its best season in the history of the five-year program. ETBU went 3-1 against ASC opponents, 14-5 overall and finished as the ASC Championship runner-up in the conference tournament.

Cook received the West Division Most Valuable Player award. Cook went 5-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles and recorded overall marks of 12-4 and 13-4 in singles and doubles, respectively. Cook led the Cowgirls to a 5-0 mark against ASC teams to win the West Division title and an appearance in the ASC Championship semifinals. 

Joining Casey on the all-conference singles team from ETBU is sophomore Kate Bramlett at No. 3 and freshman Mullika Seekhieo at No. 6. UT Dallas freshman Sophie Farmer was picked at No. 2 and freshman Elizabeth Labra was tabbed at No. 4. Hardin-Simmons freshman Jasmine Briant was selected at No. 5 singles. 

On the all-conference doubles team Casey and sophomore Kate Bramlett were picked at the No. 1 position. UT Tyler claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Freshman Alexandra McKissick and senior Nicole Musngi were picked at No. 2 and freshman Lauren Kuhn and junior Kaitlyn Huskey were chosen at No. 3.
