Budd, Blacketer earn ASC weekly honors

TYLER - Seniors Daniel Budd and Mary Alice Blacketer garner American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week honors after helping lead the tennis teams to big wins this past week. Budd and Blacketer were also named ASC POW together earlier this season after picking up the first wins of their senior year.

Budd who comes to us from Vancouver, British Columbia won a 6-2, 6-1 decision in No. 1 singles and recorded an 8-2 No. 3 doubles victory with teammate Arthur Fagundes last Saturday over Caltech at the Summers Tennis Center. The team won the match 6-3. Budd is now 11-2 in doubles play and 7-4 in singles action this season.

Blacketer, is in her first season with the Patriots and comes to Tyler from Lubbock, Texas. She won two first singles and two first doubles victories over Kalamazoo and Caltech. Blacketer closed out her week with a 6-0, 6-0 first singles win over Vinci Chen of Caltech after she had teamed up with Tori Musngi for an 8-1 first doubles win at the Summers Tennis Center. Blacketer started her week with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 first singles win over Kalamazoo on Wednesday in Waco and also claimed an 8-5 first doubles win that day with Musngi. Blacketer is now 10-5 in first singles play this season and 13-4 in first doubles action with Musngi. The women won the match 8-1 over Cal Tech.

The men’s tennis team is now 11-5 on the season and the women are 15-2. The men will be back in action this Saturday in San Antonio at Gustavus Adolphus while the women play in Seguin at Texas Lutheran University.
