TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis programs earned a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday with the women taking an 8-1 victory over Caltech and the men earning a 6-3 win over the Beavers at the Summers Tennis Center where both team have not lost at this season.

The No. 36-ranked women’s team improved to 15-2 on the season, while the No. 27 men are now 11-5 on the season. The Patriot men will travel to San Antonio next weekend where they’ll play Gustavus Adolphus and Washington University-St. Louis, while the women will play against Texas Lutheran next Saturday in Seguin.

Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi improved to 13-4 on the season in doubles play with an 8-1 first doubles win on Saturday, while both players also earned singles wins. Blacketer cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 first singles victory in her match and Musngi was a 6-3, 7-5 second singles winner for her ninth singles win of the season. Alexandra McKissick and Nicole Musngi are now 13-2 in doubles play this season after an 8-3 second doubles win over the Beavers and Lauren Kuhn and Kaitlyn Huskey are 14-1 on the season with an 8-3 third doubles win on their home court.

On the men’s side, the Patriots earned the 6-3 win with three doubles wins to start the day and then Daniel Budd, Arthur Fagundes and Pablo Gomez securing singles wins to take the dual match against Caltech. Budd, who is ranked No. 21 in singles play, would ease to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rushikesh Joshi in his first singles match to improve to 7-4 on the season and now has 47 career victories which ranks seventh in program history. With three more wins he’ll match David Ashlock who had 50 wins from 2007-10 but is still well behind program-leader Kevin Wright who won 68 singles matches during his playing career from 2009-12 with the Patriots.

While Budd cruised through on the first singles court, Fagundes was also taking care of his business in second singles play. A freshman ranked No. 43, Fagundes is now 9-3 in singles play after a 6-2, 6-2 win in his match on Saturday. Fagundes and Budd also secured an 8-2 third doubles win.

Jose McIntyre and Frankie Fischer teamed up to take an 8-4 first doubles win on Saturday in their first doubles match together as a team this season, while Pablo Gomez and Joey Fischer are now 11-0 in second doubles play following earning an 8-6 win. Frankie Fischer is now 31-8 all-time in doubles play which is a .795 winning percentage. That percentage ranks second in program history behind only Doug Kierstead who was 40-10 (.800) during a playing career from 2011-14 with the Patriots. Budd’s win with Fagundes was his 49th doubles win which is the eighth most in UT Tyler history.
