@patriotstennis falls to No. 25 Whitman in California

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 36-ranked UT Tyler women’s tennis team took a 9-0 loss to No. 25 Whitman College on Tuesday at the Pomona-Pitzer Tennis Courts to complete a four-match California road trip.

The Patriots (13-2) were held without a win for the first time and dropped their second straight match after seeing their undefeated season end with a loss to the University of the Redlands on Tuesday. UT Tyler will return to Texas where it will host Alumni Day on Saturday at the Summers Tennis Center before playing Kalamazoo College next Wednesday in Waco.

Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi took an 8-5 first doubles loss in their match to fall to 11-4 on the season, while Alexandra McKissick and Nicole Musngi are 11-2 on the season after an 8-5 loss in second doubles. Kaitlyn Huskey and Lauren Kuhn would suffer their first loss of the season with a tough-fought 9-7 third doubles defeat. Huskey and Kuhn are now 12-1 on the season for the Patriots.

Kuhn would also fall with a 6-4, 6-2 third singles loss and is now 10-3 overall in singles play, while Blacketer is 8-5 overall after dropping a 6-3, 6-1 first singles match to Jenna Dobrin. Janae Warren lost for only the second time this season with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) decision in fifth singles and Tori Musngi lost 6-2, 6-2 to move to 7-6 in singles play.

UT Tyler will play its next home match on Saturday, March 26 against Cal Tech. The Patriots are 2-2 against California schools with wins over La Verne and and Whittier before their two midweek losses.
