@patriotstennis women improve to 11-0

TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team remained unblemished on the season with a near-perfect result over Rhodes College as the Patriots earned an 8-1 non-conference win on Monday at the Summers Tennis Center.

The Patriots (11-0) improved to 9-0 on their home court after sweeping through doubles and going 5-1 in singles against the Lynx (4-3).

Mary Alice Blacketer earned two wins on the first day of Spring Break after taking a 6-1, 6-0 first singles victory and then an 8-0 first doubles win with teammate Tori Musngi. Blacketer is now 6-3 on the season in first singles and 10-1 with Musngi in first doubles. Lauren Kuhn would also pull a double-duty win for the Patriots with a 6-4, 6-0 second singles victory and then cruised to an 8-2 second doubles victory with Kaitlyn Huskey. Kuhn is now 8-1 in singles play this season and 10-0 in doubles with Huskey. The combination of Huskey and Kuhn is 9-0 in third doubles and picked up their first second doubles win on Monday.

Nicole Musngi improved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-4, 7-6 fourth singles win for the 59th singles victory of her career, while Janae Warren cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 fifth singles win and now has 42 singles wins.

UT Tyler travels to California this week where it opens against the University of La Verne on Friday and will play Whittier College on Saturday in Claremont. The Patriots are 2-0 on the road this season and will not play at home again until Saturday, March 26 when they host Cal Tech at the Summers Tennis Center.
