@patriotstennis takes matches over Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team earned a 5-4 win over Belhaven and then an 8-1 victory at Millsaps College, while the men’s team swept through its nine matches against the Blazers and then recorded a 7-2 win over Millsaps in non-conference play on Saturday. 

Lauren Kuhn would win two matches against the Blazers after teaming up with Kaitlyn Huskey to earn an 8-2 third doubles victory and then securing a 6-3, 6-2 third singles win. Kuhn was named the American Southwest Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday. Nicole Musngi would also win two matches with a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles win and an 8-3 second doubles victory with teammate Alexandra McKissick. Janae Warren added a 6-3, 6-0 sixth singles win to edge out the Blazers. Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi earned a first doubles win in their match at Millsaps , while Tori would also take a second singles win along with Kuhn, McKissick, Nicole Musngi, Warren and Nancy Perez each earning singles wins at MC. 

The men’s team would cruise through the day against Belhaven with Daniel Budd taking a 6-1, 6-2 first singles win and Arthur Fagundes and Frankie Fischer securing an 8-2 first doubles win over Harry Amor and Tomas Ojeda. Fagundes, who was named the ASC Player of the Week on Tuesday, would also earn a 6-0, 6-1 second singles in while Joey Fischer, Pablo Gomez, Jose McIntyre and Frankie Fischer each claimed singles victories. Budd and McIntyre downed their second doubles opponents by an 8-3 margin and Joey Fischer and Gomez edged out an 8-6 third doubles win.

Budd also earned a first singles win in the match against Millsaps and teamed up with McIntyre for an 8-5 first doubles win. Joey Fischer secured a second singles win at MC and also a second doubles win with Gomez, while Jack Puckey and Ryan Elwood claimed a third doubles win. 

UT Tyler will return to ASC play next week by hosting Louisiana College and LeTourneau on Friday at the Summers Tennis Center.
