    The University of Texas at Tyler tennis programs have earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors and 17 Scholar-Athlete individual selections for their academic and athletic performances in the 2016 season.

    SEASON REVIEW: UT Tyler excels throughout 2015-16 season

    Celebrate and file the 2015-16 collegiate athletic year as one of continued domination by the University of Texas at Tyler’s 17 athletic programs with two NCAA Division III national championships, a national runner-up finish, 10 NCAA postseason appearances, eight American Southwest Conference Championships, 17 ASC individual champions, nine all-Americans, four academic all-Americans, 20 all-region performers, 93 all-conference selections and 106 academic all-conference honors.

    CENTER COURT: Follow the #ASCtennis Championship

    The women's tournament will be held at East Division champion UT Tyler Thursday-Saturday (April 21-23) at the Summers Tennis Center, while the men's tournament will be hosted by West Division champion UT Dallas Thursday-Saturday (April 28-30) at the UTD Tennis Complex in Richardson. The UT Tyler men's and women's teams enter as two-time defending champion and has won seven of the last eight ASC crowns.

The match will follow three other contests with the winner advancing to a 2 p.m. semifinal match on Friday with the goal of playing in the 11 a.m. championship match on Saturday.

    UT Tyler senior Mary Alice Blacketer earned a hard-fought 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 first singles win over Trinity’s Marie Lutz on Saturday but it wasn’t enough as the Patriots dropped a 7-2 decision to the No. 24-ranked Tigers in the final regular season dual match of the year.

    Nicole Musngi had to wait four days before she could resume her match but the UT Tyler senior didn’t flinch as she secured an American Southwest Conference Championship for the Patriots with a 6-3, 6-4 win over ETBU’s Jabree McElaine on Wednesday in match that was postponed on Saturday after rain halted the match.

    Seniors Daniel Budd and Mary Alice Blacketer garner American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week honors after helping lead the tennis teams to big wins this past week. Budd and Blacketer were also named ASC POW together earlier this season after picking up the first wins of their senior year.

    The UT Tyler women’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Kalamazoo College on Wednesday in a neutral-court match at the Waco Regional Tennis Center. The Patriots improved to 14-2 on the season and have now recorded six 9-0 wins.
