CLAREMONT, Cali. -- The UT Tyler women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to Whitman, falling 5-4 in the opening round of the NCAA Postseason. The Patriots end the year with a 19-7 overall record, the most wins in the Patriot's history.
UT Tyler took a 2-1 lead after doubles, as No. 1's Friesenhahn and Musngi won 8-5, while No. 2 Payne and Blundell won 9-7.
In singles, Payne won 7-6, 7-5 at No. 3 while Alex Dial won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6, leaving the Patriots just one win shy of the match.
With the match tied 4-4, Amy Friesenhahn took Whitman's Jenna Dobrin to a third set, but eventually fell 4-6, 7-6, 0-6.
UT Tyler finished the year with a program record 19 victories, including 15 wins in-a-row.
