M Tennis Wins Two, Women Defeat ETBU 9-0

TYLER -- The UT Tyler men's and women's tennis teams dominated East Texas Baptist 9-0. 9-0 on Friday evening.  Earlier in the day, the men defeated LeTourneau 7-2.  With the win, the men are now 20-4 on the season while the ladies are now 12-9.

The UT Tyler men opened the day in Longview, defeating American Southwest Conference opponent LeTourneau 7-2.

Daniel Brown won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Ryan Spencer, Kevin Singer, Edward Timponi and Drew Reid also picking up wins in singles.

In doubles. Spencer and Singer won 8-2, while Rob Hodous and John Ward also won 8-2.

Against ETBU,  the Patriots cruised to a 9-0 win, keeping their record perfect in the history of ASC matches played.

In doubles, Brown and Spencer won 8-2 at No. 1, while Singer-Hodous won 8-1 at No. 2

Ward and Kierstead gave the Patriots a 3-0 advantage after doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3.

Kierstead, Daniel Budd, Jack Puckey, Houdous, Jacob Van der Schans and Matt Vechione all won in singles.

For the women,  No. 1 singles player Amy Friesenhahn was back in action after being sidelined by an injury, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

Jessica Blundell, Jennifer Payne, Nicole Musngi, Haley Albro and Katie Francis each were victorious in singles.

In doubles, Friesenhan-Payne  won 8-2 in No. 1 doubles, while Albro-Blundell won at No. 2 8-0.

At No. 3 doubles,  Emily Evans and Musgni teamed to win in straight sets.

The UT Tyler men now await the 2013 ASC Championships next week, while the ladies finish the regular season against LeTourneau at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning in Longview.
