Tennis Teams Roll by Southwestern

The UT Tyler men’s and women’s tennis team easily put away Southwestern on Friday with the men winning 7-0 and the women winning 7-1 at the Summers Tennis Center.

In No. 1 singles action, UT Tyler’s Dustin Phillips beat Nick Parker, 6-1, 6-0, setting the pace for the rest of the Patriots. Steven Campbell, Robert Sajovich, and Will McDonald all won their matches.

The UT Tyler men’s doubles pairings of David Ashlock/Phillips, Jordan Repsher/Nick Kreines, and Tripp Farmer/Brad Fentner also swept Southwestern.

The win moves UT Tyler to 3-1 on the season.

On the women’s side, Rachel Anders, Beth Launius, Michelle Hagler, Nicole Barrett, and Lainie Arellano all won their singles matches for the Patriots.

Andres beat Southwestern’s Leslie Smith, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles match.

In doubles Launius/Anders, Barrett/Hagler downed their opponents from Southwestern, while Brittany Ude and Kristen Coy fell to Kelly Finn and Sara Fitzsimmons from Southwestern, 8-5.

The UT Tyler women are also 3-1 overall and both teams will host Austin College and Hendrix at the Summers Tennis Center on Saturday.
