Tennis Goes 2-1 in Mississippi, Hagler Named POTW

CLINTON/JACKSON, Miss. -- The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team won their first American Southwest Conference East Division Match of the year on Wednesday by defeating Mississippi College in Clinton, 7-2. However, later in the day the men would have their six match win streak snapped by Division I Jackson St. in a 4-3 heartbreaker.

On the women’s side, UT Tyler earned its third straight shutout by defeating Millsaps, 9-0 in Jackson. Earlier in the day, freshman Michelle Hagler was named ASC East Women’s Tennis player of the week. Hagler was 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play last week.

The only two losses on the year for the men have come at the hands of Division I programs. The men are now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in ASC East Play.

The women have now won six matches in a row, with five of the six coming by way of a shutout. The women now stand at 6-1 on the year.

On Thursday, the women will travel to nearby Clinton to open ASC East play with Mississippi College. While the men, will move to Jackson to once again play two matches in the same day. The men will begin the day with host Millsaps, followed by fellow Jackson school, Belhaven.
