Women's Tennis Nets 14 ASC Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler women’s tennis team garnered 14 year-end awards as announced by the American Southwest Conference on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Rachel Anders (Lindale, Texas) and coach Chris Bizot received two of the top honors. Anders was named East Division Newcomer of the Year and Bizot was named Co-East Division Coach of the Year.

Bizot’s Co-Coach of the Year was his college coach, David Boteler of Mississippi College. Bizot led the Patriots to a team record of 17 wins in the 2008 season.

Anders, senior Nicole Barrett (Allen, Texas) junior Beth Launius (LaGrange, Texas), sophomore Brittany Ude (Corpus Christi, Texas), freshman Michelle Hagler (Austin, Texas) and freshman Lauren Giovannini (Dallas, Texas) were all named to the All-Conference team.

In East Division honors, Anders, Launius and Hagler were First Team selections, while Barrett and Ude received Second Team honors. Lauren Giovannini was name All-East Division Honorable Mention.

The other top two East Division awards went to Olivia Fisher of Ozarks for Player of the Year and Andrea Boyles of Mississippi for Freshman of the Year.

The 2008 ASC Champion Patriots will find out their post-season destination when the NCAA Selection Committee revelas its bracket on April 28.
