Patriots Tennis Blanks LC On Both Sides

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s tennis programs both defeated Louisiana College 9-0 on Saturday, starting their ASC season with a perfect sweep.

The Patriots men swept through doubles 8-1 in all three matches, then pounded the first-year program decisively, with Ryan May (SO/Houston, TX) and Will McDonald (JR/Houston, TX) winning in straight sets. Of the twelve total sets, Louisiana College won only ten games.

With the start of play delayed until five p.m. because of weather concerns, coach Chris Bizot was glad to get this day of play in.

“The conditions were pretty tough,” Bizot admits. “We had gusts up to forty miles per hour, so that’s not really conducive to good tennis. It’s really an equalizer, so that was a concern, but we came out and got the job done.”

The women’s team struggled early in doubles, but came back to sweep. In singles, Sophie Weber (FR/League City, TX) and Brittany Ude (FR/Corpus Christi, TX) won in straight sets. The Patriots women’s team only lost twelve games to the Lady Wildcats.

“The women did fine, we actually started out a little bit slow, but we wound up winning doubles,” Bizot said. “We have a lot of freshmen, and it’s still very early in their careers, but they had to adapt to the wind and did it. It’s always good when you can get an ACS East Division win.”

The Patriots next test will be next weekend on the road. UT Tyler is scheduled to play against Schreiner on Friday, with a match against national power Trinity in San Antonio on Saturday.
