Patriots Tennis Get Road Wins, Fall To Trinity

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s tennis programs both won a pair of road matches on Saturday, with the men sweeping Schreiner and the women beating St. Mary's. In the late afternoon, nationally ranked Trinity defeated the Patriots.

In a tight opener, The Patriots men defeated Schreiner 5-4. After winning doubles 2-1, UT Tyler got singles wins from David Ashlock (FR/Arlington, TX), Brian Jolly (JR/Houston, TX), and Tim Pedraza (SO/League City, TX) to clinch the 5-4 win.

In their second match of the day, the Patriots were swept by #12 Trinity, 9-0. Tripp Farmer (FR/League City, TX) came closest to winning a set against the national power, falling 6-3, 6-3.

The women’s team defeated St. Mary's in their first match, 7-2. The Patriots won two of the three doubles matches, led by Stephanie Sorich and Brittany Ude's(FR/Corpus Christi, TX) 8-2 win. Both players also won their singles matches, as did Sophie Weber (FR/League City, TX), who won hers 6-1 6-1.

In their afternoon match against #5 Trinity, UT Tyler fell 8-1. The Patriots #1 doubles team of Nicole Barrett (JR/Allen, TX) and Beth Launius (SO/LaGrange, TX) winning 8-6 over the national power. Barrett fell 6-4, 6-4 in her singles match.

The Patriots have road tests coming up this weekend against Hendrix, Ozarks, Oklahoma Baptist, and Southeastern Oklahoma.
