RECAP: @patriotstennis sweeps Stevens

ORLANDO, Florida – Tori Musngi earned a 6-0, 6-0 second singles win and partnered with Alexis Arrieta for an 8-0 first doubles win to help lead No. 39 UT Tyler to a 9-0 non-conference victory over Stevens on Monday in the first of three Spring Break week matches for the Patriots women’s tennis team in Florida.

“The women played very focused today, and came out on fire,” UT Tyler coach Joe Vann said. “They had a purpose to make a statement and start off their spring break strong.”

UT Tyler improved to 6-4 with its fifth win in its last six matches, while Stevens is now 9-3 on the season. The Patriots will return to action on Tuesday against Case Western Reserve and then complete the Florida trip against Kenyon College at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Musngi improved to 7-1 in singles play with her straight sets victory, while the partnership with Arrieta has a record of 8-2 on the year. In singles play, Arrieta was a 6-2, 6-0 first singles winner for her fourth win of the year while Lauren Kuhn earned a 6-2, 6-1 third singles win to even her record at 5-5.

UT Tyler is now 21-9 in doubles play after also getting an 8-2 second doubles win from Kuhn and Perez who are now 6-1 on the season and an 8-3 third doubles win from Alexandra McKissick and Savannah Seely. McKissick and Seely are now 4-1 as partners this season.

Perez was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in fourth singles, McKissick battled out a 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 fifth singles win and Seely was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in sixth singles play.

“We have big matches tomorrow and Wednesday,” Vann said. “I really believe this is a great start for us and I look forward to the rest of the week.”
