TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s tennis team remained undefeated on the season after earning a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Southwestern backed by the strength of strong doubles play after securing 9-0 win over Austin College in a pair of matches against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents on Saturday at the Summers Tennis Center.

The Patriots, who are now 18-0 in doubles play this season, would improve to 5-0 on the season by knocking off the Roos in the first dual matches of the day after a delay to the start of action due to moisture on the court. Once underway, the Patriots rolled to a sweep of the SCAC opponent including Musngi earning a 6-0, 6-1 first singles win over Kirsten Weber and Lauren Kuhn taking a second singles victory. Alexandria McKissick, Kaitlyn Huskey, Savannah Seely and Nancy Perez would also earn singles victories over AC after UT Tyler earned three doubles wins to start the day. Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi earned an 8-3 win in first doubles to remain undefeated as a doubles team, while McKissick and Nicole Musngi did the same at second doubles and Kuhn and Huskey took an 8-3 win.

UT Tyler improved to 6-0 later in the night when it finished off a 5-4 win over the Pirates following a Kuhn 6-4, 7-5 third singles victory and a Janae Warren sixth singles win (6-4, 6-2). The Patriots would drop the other four singles matches against the Pirates, but would earn the dual match win after controlling doubles play. Blacketer and Musngi improved to 6-0 as a doubles team with an 8-6 win over Anna Schneemann and Emilie Moeller in first singles, while Nicole Musngi and McKissick are also now 6-0 after an 8-5 second doubles win. Huskey and Kuhn would make it a clean doubles sweep with an 8-4 win in third doubles.

UT Tyler is now 18-0 in doubles play this season and will return to action next Saturday with a pair of matches against Millsaps College and Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi. The Patriots will be playing their first road matches of the spring season, but will return home to host their American Southwest Conference openers on Friday, March 4 against Louisiana College and LeTourneau at the Summers Tennis Center.
