The UT Tyler men's soccer team won its home opener Saturday, defeating Texas Wesleyan, 3-0, behind two goals from Taylor Robbins and another from Hampton White. The UT Tyler men improve to 2-0. In the first game, three different Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams scored goals in route to a 3-1 victory over the UT Tyler women.
Both UT Tyler teams return to action Saturday, hosting Ouachita Baptist beginning at 2 p.m. (women) followed by the men at 4 p.m.
Men's Game
A Robbins' goal just 18-seconds into the game put UT Tyler out to an early lead and the Patriots never looked back. Robbins dominated the Patriots' offense, assisting Hampton White on the second UT Tyler goal at 20:03 in the first half and scoring the final goal in the 86th minute to ice the 3-0 win for UT Tyler.
In goal, Geoff Sherman was forced to make only one save against a Texas Wesleyan offense that struggled to overcome the speed and dominance of the UT Tyler defense.
Overall, UT Tyler out-shot Texas Wesleyan 12-3 with Robbins contributing five of those shots for the Patriots.
Women's Game
The Lady Rams outshot UT Tyler 30-12 in route to their 3-1 win. Loren Clark dominated the Wesleyan offense with 10 shots, five of which were on-goal.
With the loss, UT Tyler is now 1-1-1 on the season.
Lindsey Henrie scored the Patriots' lone goal in the 73rd minute of play. Jovahnna Joseph led UT Tyler with four shots and three shots on goal.
Kristen Robertson made eight saves while allowing three goals for UT Tyler.
