Southwestern Sweeps UT Tyler in Soccer

Both UT Tyler soccer teams dropped games to Southwestern on Tuesday at the UT Tyler Premier Soccer Field. The Patriots' season continues on Friday with games at Austin College. The men will play at 1 p.m. followed by the women at 3 p.m.

Men's Game

An unassisted Southwestern goal in the 35th minute was the game's only score and it was all Southwestern needed down the Patriots, 1-0.

In the game, featuring two of the region's top soccer programs, UT Tyler outshot Southwester 15-7 but the Patriots were unable to put one of those shots on-target. Taylor Robbins led the way with for shots for UT Tyler, with one of those being on-goal. Adam McAlpine had three shots for UT Tyler followed by Terrell Hinds, Alan Hardin and Faustino Leon with two each.

Geoff Sherman and Andy Rogers shared the duties in goal for UT Tyler, combining for six saves while Sherman allowed the one Southwestern goal.

Women's Game

After a scoreless first half, Southwestern's Kim Haynsworth and Robin Thompson combined for the first goal of the game in the 58th minute to put Southwestern up 1-0.

The Patriots offense took exactly one minute to respond as Lindsey Henrie streaked down-field to score an unassisted goal for the Patriots in the 59th minute, her fifth goal of the season, to tie the game at 1-1.

The game appeared to be headed for overtime but a late goal by Nicole Morilak for Southwestern put the Lady Pirates on top 2-1 and that would be the final score.

Both teams were focused on offense as UT Tyler took 17 shots and Southwestern took 18.

Kristen Robertson made 10 saves in goal for UT Tyler while allowing two goals.
