Patriots Blast LC in Soccer Action

The University of Texas at Tyler soccer teams picked up wins over Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference soccer action Saturday at UT Tyler.

In the first game, the Patriots' men shut-out the visiting Wildcats, 4-0, while the UT Tyler women followed with a 9-1 victory in the late game.

The Patriots return to action next Friday and Saturday in Abilene with conference games against Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.

Men's Game

The Patriots returned to their winning ways and did it in the usually fashion – scoring early and often.

Daniel Havens scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute to put UT Tyler out to an early 1-0 lead and it was all UT Tyler from there on.

The Patriots combined for 34 total shots compared to only six for Louisiana College.

Christian Trinh assisted Steven Golightly on the Patriots' next goal at 40:12, putting UT Tyler up 2-0 at halftime.

Goals by Faustino Leon in the 90th minute and Erik Schaal in the 84th minute iced the win for UT Tyler.

In goal, Matthew Smith had to make only two saves for the Patriots.

UT Tyler is now 7-2 on the season and 3-1 in the ASC. Louisiana College falls to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Women's Game

Just 24-hours removed from a thrilling 5-4 double-overtime victory against Mississippi College, the Patriots' women rode the momentum to a 9-1 win against LC.

Tiffany Cooksey again led a Patriots' offense that put together 50 total shot attempts while the UT Tyler defense allowed only three shots by Louisiana College.

Cooksey assisted Lindsey Henrie on UT Tyler's first goal at 4:08 and Cara Janton was assisted by Jovahnna Joseph on the next Patriot goal at 9:43.

LC got on the board, scoring their first goal of the season, in the 14th minute on an unassisted shot by Katilin Deboer.

Heather Haas scored with just seven seconds remaining in the first half to give UT Tyler a 3-1 lead at the break.

The second half was all UT Tyler as Leigh Garner scored in the 48th minute followed by back-to-back goals by Cooksey at 52:46 and 55:05. Joseph, Haas and Nicolette Weil would all score for UT Tyler in the second half.

Mirroring the men's game, goalkeeper Kristen Robertson was forced to make only two saves in goal for the Patriots.

UT Tyler evened its ASC record at 2-2 and improved to 4-5-1 overall while Louisiana College fell to 0-7 (0-4 ASC).
