The University of Texas at Tyler soccer team split games with American Southwest Conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, with the UT Tyler men winning 4-2 and the Patriots' women falling 1-0.
UT Tyler will host Concordia-Austin on Saturday. The men's game is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the women following at 7 p.m.
Men's Game
Adam McAlpine scored for UT Tyler just 1:11 into Friday night's game on a header to open the Patriot onslaught.
UT Tyler is now 10-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Danny Sandborn and Derek Meller assisted on a Terrell Hinds goal in the 19th minute to put UT Tyler up 2-0.
UMHB got on the board at 24:19 on a Sylvester Jallah penalty kick to make the score 2-1 at the half.
UMHB scored again in the 50th minute to tie the game on an unassisted shot by Richard Ellis but UT Tyler retook the lead on a penalty kick by Faustino Leon at 57:39.
Brian McDaniel scored the insurance goal for the Patriots in the 85th minute on an assist from Erik Schall.
Overall, UMHB outshot UT Tyler 15-13. Both teams combined for 29 fouls.
In goal for the Patriots, Geoff Sherman made one save and allowed one goal while Andy Rogers made four saves and also allowed a goal.
Women's Game
In a game of missed opportunities, UT Tyler dropped to 3-4 in ASC play and 5-7-1 overall with the 1-0 loss to UMHB Friday.
The Patriots did not lack for attempts, taking 29 total shots to UMHB's seven. UT Tyler had 12 shots on goal, all of them stopped by UMHB keeper Marleigh Clayton.
The Patriots dominated the game offensively as Tiffany Cooksey had 10 shots, Cara Janton took six and Jordan Reed had four.
The game went scoreless and appeared headed for overtime until UMHB's Lauren Thorne scored in the 87th minute for the game's only goal.
