Patriots Soccer Teams Dominate Concordia

UT Tyler dominated Concordia-Austin in two games at the UT Tyler Premeir Soccer Field Saturday.

The Patriot men moved their American Southwest Conference record to 7-1 (11-2 overall) in a 6-1 win. The Patriots jumped to a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Erik Schaal and a goal by Travis Whitehurst, with the assist by Derek Meller. Faustino Leon scored on a pass from Danny Sanborn to push the Patriot lead to 3-0 before halftime.

The Patriots continued their domination in the second period, with goals by Daniel Havens (unassisted), Mike Hansen (Leon assist) and Eric Dygert (unassisted), before Concordia scored their first goal.

The Patriot women were equally successful, pushing past Concordia's women's team 5-1 to even their ASC record at 4-4 (6-7-1 overall).

Patriot forward Tiffany Cooksey started the rout, scoring on a pass from Courtney DuBois just four minutes into the game. An unassisted goal by Leigh Garner and a goal by Heather McCreary, with the assist coming from Rochelle Stretch, gave the Patriots a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Seven minutes into the second period, Cara Janton scored on a pass from Cooksey, while McCreary added her second goal on the night on a pass from Kelly Buchanan with just over 12 minutes to play. Concordia got on the board with 2:30 left on a Marcia Collier goal.

The Patriots will return to action Tuesday as they travel to Clarksville, Ark., to play the Ozarks.

The men will begin play at 1 p.m. with the women to follow at 3 p.m.
