ABILENE -- The UT Tyler women's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Friday afternoon at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, dropping a 1-1 tie to Howard Payne in a shootout.
The Patriots end their season with a 10-6-3 record.
Howard Payne scored in the 41st minute on a goal by
Lauren Hankins-Hatch off a nice pass from Shannon Castello. It looked
like the goal might hold up, but the Patriots scored in the 83rd minute when Emily Bechdol drove on the right endline and crossed to Jordan Johnson, who finished it to tie the match.
After two scoreless overtimes, the match went to a shootout and it
went to 12 shots each with HPU finally winning on their third
opportunity to seal the match.
Adrienne Walker of HPU and the Patriots' Paige Harris each had five saves
during the course of 110 minutes of field action. UT Tyler outshot HPU 18-10
and both teams had six shots on goals.
Howard Payne is now 11-5-1 on the year and advances to the semifinal round. The game is officially recorded as a tie.
