PINEVILLE, La. – The UT Tyler women’s soccer team was so dominant on defense against Louisiana College that even its goal came from a defender in a 1-0 win over the Wildcats on Saturday to close out the regular season.

UT Tyler freshman Landri Edwards scored the first goal of her career in the 52nd minute off an assist from Kelsy Haden for the game-winning goal that takes the Patriots to 11-4 on the season and to 8-4 in conference play. The Patriots will be the fifth seed in the American Southwest Conference Championship next week and will travel to play East Texas Baptist. The Tigers are the fourth seed in the tournament after falling 1-0 on Saturday to UT Dallas.

“We are ready for Tuesday and will be ready to lay it on the line,” UT Tyler coach Stefani Webb said.

On Saturday, in the regular-season finale UT Tyler senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley did not face a single shot as the defensive unit held the Wildcats without a shot on goal and only two total shots. On the flipside, the Patriots had 18 shots on goal in the win. Vanessa Rangel, Mariah Harmon, Kaelyn Steitz, Bailey Wooten, Sky Reynolds and Edwards had two shots on goal each, while Kathleen Johnson, Haden, Gigi Grohn, Maren Moore, Ashton Peeks, Taylor Tarsi and Kiersten Ehler had one each.

UT Tyler has now recorded nine shutouts and has outscored its opponents by a 27-6 margin through 15 games this season entering the postseason. The Patriot defense has not allowed more than a goal in any game this year and will go into Tuesday’s quarterfinal game on a four-game winning streak.
