TYLER – On a two-game winning streak with a pair of shutouts, the UT Tyler women’s soccer team will host East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau this week in a pair of American Southwest Conference games at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (7-3, 4-3 ASC) open the week with a Blue Out against ETBU (8-4-1, 3-2-1 ASC) at 5 p.m. on Thursday in a Keep Kids Connected game before hosting the YellowJackets (6-4-2, 2-3-1 ASC) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on Alumni Day. UT Tyler has outscored its opponents by an 18-4 margin this season after earning a 1-0 victory over Sul Ross last Saturday in its only game of the week and its sixth shutout of the season.

UT Tyler senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley earned ASC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after securing four saves and helping the Patriots to their six shut out against the Lobos. Hurley and the Patriot defense has not allowed more than one goal in a game this season and the team owns an 87-43 shots on goal advantage. Hurley, who leads the ASC in shutouts, has made 39 saves this season and 114 in her career.  

UT Tyler junior Kaelyn Steitz has scored goals in the past two games and now has four on the season. Steitz scored the game-winner against SRSU in the 10th minute off an assist from Mariah Harmon as the Patriots improved to 3-1 away from Tyler. Steitz also scored goals against Southwestern, Concordia and McMurry this season and has seven in her career. Caitlyn Mortus leads the Patriots with five goals this season and is the active leader with 16 in her career. A senior from Katy, Mortus has a pair of two-goal performances this season against Rhodes College and Howard Payne along with scoring the game-winning goal at Southwestern. She also leads the offensive attack with 19 shots on goal and is tied for the team lead with two assists along with Bailey Wooten and Kathleen Johnson.

Kaycee West has added three goals for the Patriots in her freshman season, including scoring two goals against HPU and then adding one at Concordia while Wooten has two goals to go along with her two assists. Wooten scored her two goals in the first two games of the season against Rhodes and Hendrix and had one shot on goal last Saturday at Sul Ross. UT Tyler has also received goals from Kiersten Ehler, Willow Herndon and Vanessa Rangel this season.

UT Tyler will play its final home game next weekend when it hosts Ozarks on Saturday, Oct. 21 before finishing the regular season at Belhaven (Oct. 26) and Louisiana College (Oct. 28).
