ALPINE – UT Tyler junior Kaelyn Steitz scored in the 10th minute of play and the Patriots defense limited Sul Ross to four shots on goal in a 1-0 American Southwest Conference win on Saturday at Lobo Field.

The Patriots (7-3, 4-3 ASC) earned their sixth shutout of the season and second straight win, while the Lobos fell to 3-2-1 in conference play. UT Tyler is now 3-1 on the road and has still not allowed an opponent to score more than one goal all season.

Steitz recorded her fourth goal of the season and the seventh of her career off an assist from Mariah Harmon just 10 minutes into the game in what would prove to be the game-winner. Caitlyn Mortus and Steitz led the Patriots with two shots on goal each. Kathleen Johnson, Jessica L’Hoste, Vanessa Rangel and Taylor Tarsi also had one shot on goal.

Emily Hurley recorded the four saves in goal for UT Tyler and now has 39 saves through 10 games of her senior season.

UT Tyler will return home to host East Texas Baptist on Thursday and LeTourneau on Saturday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
