TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s soccer team is on the road where it will play Sul Ross at noon on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at Lobo Field in Alpine.

The Patriots (6-3, 3-3 ASC) are coming off a 3-0 win over McMurry last Saturday and only have one game on their schedule this week. The Lobos (5-2-1, 3-1-1 ASC) earned a 1-0 win over Ozarks on Thursday after knocking off East Texas Baptist last week by a 2-1 margin in Marshall. UT Tyler is 2-1 on the road this season, while the Lobos improved to 4-1 on their home field with the shutout win on Thursday over the Eagles. The UT Tyler men's team is off this week with Sul Ross only fielding a women's program.

UT Tyler has outscored its opponents by a 17-4 margin this season and has not allowed a team to score more than one goal in a game all year. The Patriots have recorded five shutouts through nine games with senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley making 35 saves. Hurley has benefited from strong defensive work by Caroline Williams, Taylor Peimbert, Landri Edwards and a defensive unit that has allowed only 39 shots on goal and 82 total shots. The offense on the other side of the field has put 73 shots on goal and 149 total shots.

UT Tyler senior Caitlyn Mortus leads the Patriots with five goals and has also added two assists. A forward from Katy, Mortus has 16 career goals and nine assists through 64 games for the Patriots. Kaelyn Steitz and Kaycee West have added three goals each, while Bailey Wooten has two goals. Steitz scored one of the three goals against the War Hawks last Saturday, along with freshman Kiersten Ehler who recorded her first career goal. The other goal in the 3-0 win was an own-goal.

Willow Herndon and Vanessa Rangel have one goal each for the Patriots who have a .114 shot percentage this season.

UT Tyler is 2-0 all-time against the Lobos with a 7-0 win last season at home after a 10-0 win in Alpine in Sul Ross’s inaugural soccer season in 2015. The Lobos were 3-13 in that first year, 6-9-1 last season and have now risen to a 5-2-1 record midway through their third season. The Patriots will return to Tyler after the game where they will host East Texas Baptist next Thursday and LeTourneau on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
