TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s soccer team will host Hardin-Simmons and McMurry this week in a pair of American Southwest Conference games at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (5-2, 2-2 ASC) will play the Cowgirls (7-0, 3-0 ASC) at 5 p.m. on Thursday and then the WarHawks (2-6, 0-3 ASC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. UT Tyler is coming off a week where they earned a 3-1 win over Concordia, but will be looking to return to the win column after falling 1-0 in overtime at Mary Hardin-Baylor last Saturday. The team has outscored its opponents by a 14-3 margin this season and is 3-1 on its home field at the midpoint of the 2017 season.

UT Tyler senior Caitlyn Mortus leads the Patriots with five goals and two assist this season, while freshman Kaycee West has scored three goals. West also scored two goals against HPU and then added her third in the win at Concordia. Prior to scoring three goals in the last three games, West only had three shots on goal in the first four games of the season.

Kaelyn Steitz and Bailey Wooten have added two goals each, while Willow Herndon and Vanessa Rangel have scored one goal. Steitz and Rangel scored a goal against the Tornados last week.

Emily Hurley has played every minute in goal for the Patriots and has recorded 28 saves in seven games. A senior from Sulphur Springs, Hurley is coming off matching a career-best with 11 saves last Saturday at UMHB. Hurley has four shutouts this season and a .903 saves percentage. She has earned one ASC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and has allowed only three goals in seven games.

UT Tyler and HSU have met in three straight ASC Championship finals and six times overall. The Cowgirls enter this weekend unblemished on the season, including beating Hendrix and Rhodes College to start the season on UT Tyler’s home field. HSU is coming off a 6-0 win over LeTourneau and a 6-1 victory against ETBU last week. The Cowgirls have won three straight games over the Patriots with UT Tyler earning a 1-0 win on Sept. 19, 2015 on its way to securing the 2015 regular-season ASC title.
