ROUND ROCK – UT Tyler junior Kaelyn Steitz scored in the sixth minute of the game and then Vanessa Rangel and Kaycee West put two more on the board for the Patriots who earned a 3-1 win over Concordia on Thursday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in the first of two games of an American Southwest Conference road trip.

The Patriots (5-1, 3-1 ASC) improved to 2-0 on the road and will now play Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Belton before returning home where they will host Hardin-Simmons next Thursday in Tyler. UT Tyler has now outscored its opponents by a 14-2 margin this season has had six scorers through six games, while CTDX falls to 0-3 in conference play.

Steitz, who also scored against CTX last season, gave the Patriots the quick 1-0 lead with only 5:26 going off the clock off an assist from Kathleen Johnson. It was the second goal of the season for Steitz and the fifth in her career. CTX would tie the game in the 52nd minute, but the Patriots regained the lead with Rangel scoring her first goal of the season and recording the game-winner in the 64th off an assist from Caitlyn Mortus. Rangel scored the ninth goal of her career, while Mortus now has two assists on the season. With only 47 seconds remaining, West struck for the third time in her freshman season off an assist from fellow freshman Alexandria Clowers. A Bedford native, West has scored all three of her goals in the past week after scoring two in the 5-0 win over Howard Payne last weekend.

UT Tyler goalkeeper Emily Hurley recorded four saves for the Patriots to earn the win and now has 17 saves this season. UT Tyler finished the game with a 10-4 shots on goal advantage with Mortus having four and West adding two more to lead the Patriots.

UT Tyler and UMHB will play at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Cru Soccer Field.
