TYLER – Caitlyn Mortus scored two goals and Bailey Wooten and Willow Herndon added one each to help lead the UT Tyler women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win over Rhodes College on Friday in the season-opener at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots extended their home unbeaten streak to 26 games with the win over the Lynx and will now host Hendrix at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Warriors will be coming off a 2-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons on Friday in Tyler.

A senior from Katy, now has 13 goals in her UT Tyler career and her first multi-goal performance. She struck first in the 21st minute of play off an assist from Taylor Tarsi and Kaelyn Steitz to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead and then again in the 63rd minute off a deflection for a 4-0 lead. She led the Patriots with five shots in the game, while Herndon and Wooten had one shot each that found the net.

Wooten, a sophomore from Rockwall, had three goals for UT Tyler as freshman and recorded her career’s fourth in the 39th minute to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead before Herndon’s 43rd minute goal gave the Patriots a 3-0 halftime lead. Herndon also had three goals last year as a freshman and started her sophomore year off with a goal.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley recorded two saves in the game with the Lynx being limited to five total shots.
