CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The UT Tyler Patriots soccer teams
earned sweeps over Ozarks on Thursday afternoon in Ameican Southwest Confernce Action. The women defeated
the Eagles, 4-1, behind a pair of goals in each half, while the men won by a
score of 1-0.
The win for the women pushed their season record to 9-5-1
and 8-2 in ASC play. The men now have an 11-2 overall
season record while remaining in first place in the ASC with a 8-1 mark.
The women got the scoring started early in the first half, beginning at the
22:56 mark when Kathryn Haag received a Kayley Coggins assist from 25 yards out
to score. Just 57-seconds later, Emily Bechdol headed one into the back of the net
from a beautiful cross from Jordan Johnson.
Alex Cannon scored Ozarks only goal of the match at the
40:20 mark in the first half.
Seven minutes into the second half, Bechdol returned the
favor to Johnson as she scored on the assist credited to Bechdol. Then at the
54th minute mark, another Johnson assist, this time to Charity Shipman,
resulted in the fourth and final goal for the Patriots, giving them the 4-1
victory.
UT Tyler totaled 20 shots in the match to Ozarks
three.
The men continued their hot streak through the ASC as they
won by a score of 1-0.
Victor Almendariz scored the Patriots’ only goal of the
match when Jesus Morteo found him for a goal at the 11:07 mark.
UT Tyler had six shots on goal while Ozarks had three in the defense-dominated contest. The
Patriots also won the shot battle, 11-3.
Parker Hood and Chris Powell each had two shots and one shot
on goal while keeper Sergio Gardea registered three saves in the shutout.
Both teams now head to Richardson to play UT Dallas on
Saturday afternoon.
