TYLER – The UT Tyler Patriots’ women’s soccer team defeated
East Texas Baptist, 1-0, in front of the homecoming crowd of over 600 Saturday night at the Citizens 1st
Bank- Perkins Soccer Complex.
The win puts the Patriots’ new record at 8-4 and 6-1 in
American Southwest Conference action and ETBU falls to 7-3-1 overall and 4-2 in
league play.
The Patriots scored the only goal of the game at the 23:29
mark in the first half when Lindsey Edwards weaved her way through the Tiger
defense in the middle of the field and found the back of the net to put UT
Tyler on top, 1-0.
The Patriots’ defense was suffocating ETBU throughout the
whole game, especially in the second half behind UT Tyler keeper, Paige Harris.
Harris recorded six saves in the match, with five of them coming in the second
half.
UT Tyler outshot ETBU 11-10 in the match. Patriots’ defender
Charity Shipman led the way with four shots while Kristen Steele, Lindsey
Edwards, Jordan Johnson, Kayley Coggin, Lindsey Halbrook, Caitlin Cronin, and
Meredith Krause all recorded one shot each.
The Patriots’ have now gone five matches without
surrendering a goal, while only allowing one in the last six.
UT Tyler now head out on the road to face Concordia on
Tuesday night before returning home to play Centenary next Thursday night.
